Body Worlds

Body Worlds is one of the world's most famous exhibitions on anatomy. As most people tend to have a curiosity towards the human body, Body Worlds - which gives you an unique view inside the human body - is the ideal exhibition. From the nervous system to a smokers lung, every detail can be seen. All bodies have been donated and, depending on the size of specimens, it takes a week up to a year to prepare a specimen.

The anatomical “specimens” in the exhibition are plastinated. Plastination, a technique invented by Gunther von Hagens, who is also the man behind Body Worlds, preserves the human tissue. Gunther von Hagens is still trying to perfect his technique, because “it is not yet perfect”.

Gunther says: "The human body is the last remaining nature in a man-made environment".

He hopes “for the exhibitions to be places of enlightment and contemplations, even of philosophical and religious self-recognition, and open to interpretation regardless of the background and philosophy of life of the viewer.”
