Iliotibial band syndrome (ITBS) is the second most common running injury. The pain is usually located at the lateral knee. Kinematic alterations that have been mentioned in relation to ITBS are increased adduction of the hip and internal rotation in the knee during running. Previous studies have also mentioned that there is possibly a lack of coordination in the hip and knee, which can result in kinematic changes in the lower extremity. The purpose of the current study was to determine the effects of fatigue on hip joint kinematics, kinetics and joint coupling patterns in runners with ITBS as compared with healthy controls.
