Whiplash injuries are commonly accompanied by headaches, and can be a challenging injury to treat. As 40 percent of individuals who have sustained a chronic whiplash injury may continue to have headaches even 5 years post injury, this study aimed to investigate which therapy modality was most beneficial for headaches.
The authors of this study highlight that neck stability depends for only 25 percent on ligamentous stability. The deep neck muscles play a crucial role in cervical stability and optimal vertebral loading.
Moreover, psychosocial factors have been associated with whiplash injuries, and relaxation therapy has proven to assist in improving chronic headaches occurring in patients with whiplash associated disorders.
